Dr. Kaplan has enjoyed a pediatric practice at the San Mateo Medical Center since 1969 and currently serves as Chief of Pediatrics, a position he has held since1971. Dr. Kaplan has a special interest in the problem of child abuse and in 1974 was Chair of San Mateo County's first community conference on child abuse and the multidisciplinary child abuse team. Dr. Kaplan helped to develop one of the area's first forensic medical diagnostic clinics (the Children's SAFE Center at the San Mateo Medical Center) for the evaluation of suspected child sexual abuse victims,now called the Keller Center for Domestic Violence. Dr. Kaplan continues to provide medical consultation in suspected child abuse cases to Children's Protective Services and to local courts and law enforcement agencies. He is also a member of the San Mateo County Pediatric Death Review Team. Harvey Kaplan was born in Brooklyn, NY, received a Bachelor of Arts from New York University and Medical Doctorate from New York Medical College. Dr. Kaplan completed his internship at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco; served in the USAF Medical Corps; and, completed his pediatric residency at Stanford Medical Center. Dr. Kaplan is board certified in Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and a member of the Community Clinical Faculty of Louise Packard Children's Hospital. He and his wife, Gay Minamoto Kaplan, a geriatric nurse practitioner, have lived in San Mateo for 33 years raising their family. They have a married son and daughter and 4 grandchildren living in the SF Bay area. |
